After 200 years, the Marquis de Lafayette is returning to Paterson! Please join the Paterson Museum Foundation as we welcome this hero of the American Revolution at the Paterson Great Falls on Saturday July 12th at noon, in the amphitheater at the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park (72 McBride Avenue Extension). Additional parking is available at the Paterson Museum.

The Marquis de Lafayette, was one of the first French allies to join the American Revolution in support of Independence. The young man developed a lifelong friendship with General George Washington and many other officers he served with during the conflict. In 1824, he returned to the United States and conducted a thirteen-month tour of the nation. Much of his tour included visiting the locations of past battles and rekindling friendships with old acquaintances.
This event commemorates the 200th anniversary of his brief visit to Paterson, New Jersey in 1825. Following a brief presentation, attendees will have a chance to speak to Michael Halbert, who is portraying the Marquis de Lafayette, and take photos with him in front of the amazing backdrop of the Paterson Great Falls. Cake to celebrate the occasion will also be available, first come first served.
Directly following the event, join us back at the Paterson Museum (2 Market Street) at 2 pm for Paul Larson’s presentation, Marquis de Lafayette in New Jersey. Please note, the Museum will only be open during the presentation and directly afterward.
Both programs are free and open to the public. The Paterson Museum Foundation would like to thank the American Friends of Lafayette for their support.
